pCF10 is a very stable plasmid. A mutation in the toxic peptide of the post-segregational killing (PSK) system suggests that the PSK system does not contribute to pCF10 stability. In contrast to another conjugative plasmid, pAD1, deletion of the PSK system from the pCF10 minimal replicon did not significantly affect pCF10 stability. Future studies will attempt to determine how CcfA 1-22 affects pCF10 maintenance and if CcfA1-22 may be contributing to the remarkable stability of pCF10.
